Course Description
The Maritime Institute of Technology and Graduate Studies (MITAGS) Cyber-skilled Mariner class outlines the cyber risk management (CRM) measures that will prepare maritime stakeholders to detect, respond to, and recover from cyber threats as required by the new USCG Cybersecurity Rule (33 CFR Parts 101 and 160), focused on building a resilient cybersecurity framework, reduce vulnerabilities, and comply with federal regulations while safeguarding critical maritime infrastructure.
The final rule on cybersecurity measures forU.S.-flagged vessels, facilities, and OCSfacilities will officially take effect on July 16,2025, which is 180 days after its publication inthe Federal Register on January 17, 2025.
The class will prepare students to meet thedeadline for submitting both required plans andobtaining USCG approval. Additionally, theMITAGS Cyber-Skilled Mariner Program offerstargeted 1–4 hour on-demand workshops thatdive deeper into each requirement of the final rule.
